Retrieval-Augmented Generation is not enough: why workflow design matters

Source-aware answers are valuable, but they do not remove the need for process design, escalation, evaluation, and human oversight.

Retrieval-Augmented Generation can help teams search policies, documents, knowledge bases, and records with better context. But retrieval alone does not define what happens next.

The workflow still needs to decide who can ask which questions, which sources are trusted, how answers are reviewed, what is logged, and when the system should escalate rather than answer.

DDAI treats retrieval as one part of an operational workflow, not the whole solution. That keeps useful knowledge access connected to governance, permissions, and evidence.
